In St. Lucia, you can enjoy some of the most authentic Caribbean dishes being served, many of which include foods such as beans, plantains, rice, sweet potatoes, coconut, pork beef, chicken, and fish. St. Lucian food usually tends to be a combination of Creole with French and West Indian influences. This article will provide a brief description of some of the places where you can eat in St. Lucia.

Dasheene Restaurant and Bar

With breath-taking views of the Pitons, you could be forgiven if you mistake a trip to Dasheene as one for sightseeing rather than dining. The ambiance of this restaurant is a thing of beauty during the day and absolutely stunning at night. Enjoy light dishes such as pasta or fresh salads or something more fancy such as a grilled rack of lamb with coconut risotto and curry sauce at this exquisite restaurant.

Rainforest Hideaway

Only accessible via boat, this lovely site has a wooden deck extending right over the water and offers a “sophisticated” Caribbean menu featuring Caribbean flavour with a dash of classical French techniques. Some of the dishes served include lionfish in a coconut crust, jerk chicken, with sides such as mini vegetable rotis and local mushrooms. There is also live Jazz on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights.

The Cliff at Cap Maison

This lovely open air restaurant is perched, as the name implies, on a cliff where you are privy to some beautiful views of the ocean below. Dine on French/West Indian cuisine or have a drink at its bar, which has an impressive variety of rums. Whether you dine during the day or night, The Cliff is one of the loveliest places to dine in St. Lucia and perfect for a romantic date night.

Martha’s Tables

For a more casual dining experience, visit this modest lunchtime restaurant. Maths’s home-made Creole cooking is absolutely delicious. Try one of her delicious main courses, for example grilled chicken breast, served with plantains, rice and beans and a potato salad and we guarantee you will be begging for more.

Tao

Tao restaurant is located at the BodyHoliday Resort and serves Asian cuisines with a touch of Caribbean flavour. Main courses feature tender slices of pork loin teriyaki, twice-cooked duck, wok-seared calves' liver, or tandoori chicken, while fine wines accompany the meals and desserts.

The Coal Pot

This elegant restaurant is almost 50 years old but you could never tell as you enter. The ambiance is excellent and its wide selection of Creole dishes will leave your appetite desiring more. Many of the dishes in the main course come with a selection of sauces (we recommend the ginger sauce), beautifully served on fish-shaped platters.

Big Chef Steakhouse

Deemed one of the most reliable places to enjoy a good dinner in Rodney Bay Village, this classy air-conditioned restaurant guarantees you a great dinner. Enjoy savoury and tender steaks and a side of sweet potato fries that will satisfy any pellet. For dessert, sample one of their many rich puddings, including the cranberry vanilla crème brûlée.

Flavours of the Grill

Flavours of the Grill Restaurant is a modest, yet colourful and friendly restaurant and is regarded as one of the best places in St. Lucia to enjoy authentic (and inexpensive) Caribbean cooking. In addition to some of the excellent dishes available here, Flavours of the Grill is located near to the fishing village of Gros Islet, where there is a lively street party every Friday evening.

If there is one thing you are guaranteed at Boucan restaurant is one of the most unique dining experiences of your lifetime. Some of the most imaginative food in St. Lucia is served here, as most dishes, both savoury and sweet, have cocoa of some form in them. With such an emphasis on cocoa, this restaurant also has a selection of excellent chocolate desserts.
